Garden Farmhouse, Melville Castle

Garden Farmhouse, located near Melville Castle, dates back to the late 18th century. This two-storey, three-bay farmhouse is positioned to the north of a walled garden and was renovated in 1990. It is constructed from squared and coursed stone-cleaned cream sandstone rubble, featuring ashlar dressings and quoins.

The south elevation, or front, has a modern, part-glazed door located in the central bay at ground level, with a window just below the eaves on the first floor above. There is a window at each floor in the bays on either side.

The north elevation, or rear, includes a two-storey lean-to addition. The east side elevation features a modern, part-glazed door set to the right at ground level, with a window above on the first floor. There is also a lean-to addition on the outer right.

The farmhouse has regrettable modern lead-pane glazing and a grey slate roof. The gablehead stacks, which are rendered and coped, may have been reduced in height and are located at the east and west gabled ends. The ashlar skews and replacement rainwater goods complete the exterior.

To the southwest, there are gatepiers made of contemporary square-plan droved ashlar with a cope and pyramidal caps, which are adjacent to a low coped garden wall.
