Description

Boghall Farmhouse, built around 1830 with later alterations, is a large farmhouse designed in the Scots Baronial Style. It features a two-storey, T-shaped structure with crowstepped gables, linked to a single-storey ancillary wing at the rear, creating a U-shaped layout around an open courtyard.

The east elevation, which serves as the entrance, has four bays and an advanced gable on the right that includes a later canted bay window at the ground floor. The entrance is topped with a decorative hoodmould. There are blind windows on the first floor of the advanced gabled bay and the centre window of the main block. The first floor windows are adorned with coped gablet-headed dormers featuring bird, thistle, crescent moon, and floral finials. A deep base course runs along the principal elevation, while the south gabled elevation is plain. The building is topped with corniced gable chimney stacks.

Most windows are 12-pane glazed in timber sash and case frames, although some ground floor windows on the east elevation have been replaced.

The interior, last seen in 2015, remains largely unaltered, with a few later partitions affecting room layouts. A turned staircase with plain cast iron bannisters leads to the upper floors. The principal rooms feature marble fire surrounds, alongside some later 19th-century style fire surrounds on the first floor. Throughout the house, there are six-panel timber doors and a decorative pen light above the front door. A first-floor room includes tongue and groove panelling, while the main room in the rear ancillary wing has a flagstone floor.
