Cottage, Outerston Farm

Outerston Farm Cottage is a late 19th-century building, likely designed by architect Robert Smith from Gorebridge. This single-storey and attic cottage features a three-bay design, constructed from tooled, snecked sandstone rubble with stugged long and short dressings that are droved to the margins. The ground floor has raised margins, while the attic includes gableted dormers with timber bargeboards, a kingpost detail, and a timber finial at the apex. The gable also has a pierced and carved bargeboard.

The west elevation is symmetrical, with a gabled porch that projects from the center bay of the ground floor. It has a boarded timber door topped with a letterbox fanlight, and the apex of the gable features timber bargeboards and a finial. There is a window in each of the flanking bays, and dormer windows in the left and right bays of the attic.

The south elevation is blank, while the east elevation was not visible in 1998. The north elevation is obscured by an adjoining cartshed and granary, which are listed separately.

The cottage has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and a graded grey slate roof with a lead ridge and overhanging eaves. A stugged, coped gablehead stack with circular cans is present. The interior was not seen in 1998.
