Description
The Free Church on Toll Road in Avoch was designed by Alexander Ross and built between 1872 and 1873. This Italianate church features a broad rectangular shape with a campanile at the northeast corner. It has five bay flanks and round-arched windows that include hoodmoulds. The east gable showcases a stepped three-light round-arched window, while the west gable is adorned with a rose window. The square three-stage campanile at the northeast corner has a battered, rusticated base that forms a porch. It includes four round-arched belfry openings supported by engaged columns and has a corbelled eaves course. The church has a shallow piended roof topped with a weather vane. The exterior is made of coursed rubble with polished ashlar dressings, all in red sandstone, and it has a slate roof.
