Description
Maji Cottage, located at 34 The Dock in Avoch, is a traditional thatch-roofed cottage dating from the early to mid-19th century. The original thatch is preserved beneath a corrugated-iron roof. The cottage features battered clay walls, painted render, and harl, with modern glazing. A large gabled bedroom wing, which may be an extension, is centrally positioned on the front of the house and constructed using traditional materials. The main roof extends continuously over a timber-walled garage on the west side. There is also a small modern outshot on the eastern gable.
Inside, the cottage has coombed ceilings, and in the loft, early roof timbers are exposed, showcasing collars, turf, and thatch.
