Old Bank House, 9 Argyle Street, Ullapool

This is an early 19th century, two-storey and attic house with three bays, located at 9 Argyle Street, Ullapool. The exterior is of coursed red rubble, with the side and rear elevations harled. A central doorway is framed by a simple fanlight and a plain wooden portico supported by slender Roman Doric columns. The first-floor windows are smaller than those on the ground floor, and most feature 12-pane glazing. There are three early piended dormers, also with 6-pane glazing, and corniced end stacks rise from a slate roof. The fenestration on the rear is symmetrical, with a central stair window. A single-storey rear wing extends from the centre. A low rubble front retaining wall has an ashlar cope. The building formerly served as a Caledonian Bank, an association documented on the 1876 Ordnance Survey map.
