Description

The Graveyard Museum, located on West Argyle Street in Ullapool, is a church designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1829. Plans and specifications were prepared by James Smith, who also acted as the contractor. It is a standard T-plan church constructed of coursed squared rubble, with the side and rear elevations finished with harling. The architectural detailing is enhanced by contrasting tooled ashlar dressings. The south elevation features a depressed arched entrance and paired windows with detailed cast-iron 2-light, latticed glazing in the central bays. Similar windows are found in the end gables and on the east and west elevations of the T-wing. A bellcote sits atop the apex of the west gable, and the building is covered with slate roofs.

The interior is a plain galleried space. The associated burial ground is enclosed by pair of gate piers constructed from squared dressed rubble with caps, and a coped drystone wall. The parish of Ullapool was separated from Lochbroom in 1833.
