Description

This is an A-grade burial ground and graveyard museum, located at West Argyle Street, Ullapool. The complex was built in 1829 to the design of Thomas Telford, with plans and specifications provided by James Smith. It takes the form of a standard Parliamentary T-plan church with associated burial ground. The exterior is constructed of coursed squared rubble, with the flanks and rear walls being harled, and contrasting tooled ashlar dressings. The south elevation features depressed arched outer doors and similarly detailed paired windows in the central bays, incorporating cast-iron 2-light windows with latticed glazing. Matching windows are found in the end gables and the east and west elevations of the T-wing. A standard bellcote sits atop the west gable apex, and the roofs are slate covered.

The interior is plain with galleries. The burial ground is enclosed by a pair of gate piers constructed of squared dressed rubble with caps, and by a coped drystone wall. The site was disused. James Smith, architect, also acted as contractor. The Quoad Sacra parish of Ullapool was separated from Lochbroom in 1833.
