Old School, Church Road, Nairn

The Old School on Church Road in Nairn is a single-storey H-plan school built in the later 19th century. It features a square, two-stage tower at the northwest corner, constructed from stugged rubble with ashlar dressings and Gothic detailing.

The tower has a tripartite design on the ground floor, showcasing pointed windows with stepped hoodmoulds that continue as a string course. The second stage of the tower is bipartite, topped with a shaped gable that breaks through a corbelled parapet, and it is capped with a fishscale pyramidal roof and a weathervane.

The west elevation includes an entrance located in the re-entrant angles. A central gable is adorned with triple pointed lights beneath a pointed hoodmould, featuring an arcaded fleche at the crossing. To the left wing, there is a large window with modern glazing under a pointed hoodmould, and a similar window is found in the gable of the north elevation.

At the rear (east), there are two four-bay school room wings that are lit by bipartite windows and feature corniced stacks and a slate roof. Unfortunately, a modern canopy connects the wings at the west.
