Department Of Employment, 79 High Street, Nairn

The Job Centre, located at 79A High Street in Nairn, is a building dating from around 1800. It is a two-storey structure with an L-shaped plan, featuring three bays and a four-bay arm that has a gabled end facing High Street. The building has a later 19th-century two-bay shop front. The exterior is harled with painted stone margins and an ashlar shop front. The central bay openings are now blocked, and there is a projecting square porch at the re-entrant angle, which includes a shouldered lintel, side lights, and a shaped parapet. The building features some 12-pane glazing and a single later 19th-century gabled wallhead dormer on the northeast elevation, along with end and wallhead stacks. The shop front at 79A has modern glazing at the ground floor, while the first floor has a symmetrical ashlar facade with paired angle pilaster strips supporting a cornice. The facade is topped with a pediment that has a blank plaque and a small raised semi-circular apex pediment.
