Description

John Rhind, 1869. Italian Renaissance; 3 storeys and attic, 7

bay front to High Street and canted corner bay originally

with entrance. Polished ashlar to High Street; coursed rubble

with polished ashlar dressings to short frontage to Douglas

Street. Round-headed pilastered windows to 1st floor divided

by engaged Corinthian columns supported on dies of 1st floor

balustrade. Galleried 2nd floor windows with squat Corinthian

columns and attenuated dividing console brackets. Modillioned

cornice with balustrade parapet above. Squat dome with

cast-iron cresting at corner and 3 bargeboarded dormers. 2

other similar dormers. Bracketted corniced entrance in

Douglas Street. Ground floor pilastered shop front survives

in part under modern fascias.
