Description
West Lodge, Highfield House, is a single-storey, L-plan Italianate gate lodge dated 1874, with a later extension to the north. The building is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings. At the southwest re-entrant angle, there is a semi-circular portico supported by two engaged and four fluted Ionic columns. The lodge features a moulded cornice with a central semi-circular pediment that includes an initialled shield and the date; there is a single window on each inner face of the portico. The south and west gables have key-stoned Venetian windows with original casements, although the glazing is modern. The roof has a corniced ridge and end stacks, with projecting and barge-boarded eaves, and is finished with a shallow slate covering.
