Description

Urray Parish Church was built in 1780, with a vestry added in 1833 and repairs carried out by Ross and Joass in 1862. Further alterations were made by Ian Lindsay around 1938. This rectangular church is constructed of pinned random rubble with ashlar dressings. It features a pair of long round-headed windows with keystones, blocked imposts, and multi-pane glazing. There is a similar later window in the outer east bay that replaced a former door. The entrance in the outer west bay is wide, corniced, and chamfered, with a small round-headed window above it.

The projecting centre Minister's porch, which serves as the vestry, has a small window. Each gable has single windows at both the ground and gallery levels, along with three windows in the north elevation, one of which in the outer northwest bay is a later addition. All windows are similarly detailed, with stained glass in the ground floor window of the east gable. Each gable apex features a blind oculus. The church has long and short quoins, a deep moulded eaves cornice on the north and south elevations that briefly returns at the corners, and a small birdcage bellcote with ball finials at the outer angles of the plinth and the apex of the dome, along with an apex ball finial on the east side. The roof is slate with a stone ridge.

Inside, the church has been recast and features a simple panelled gallery at the west end and a painted panelled pulpit. The burial ground is enclosed by rubble walls with a crenellated cope and includes a pair of gate piers, possibly by Ross and Joass from 1862. There are also a pair of panelled ashlar monolith piers with shaped caps and a pair of cast-iron carriage gates with spearhead detailing.
