Description
East Lodge at Highfield House is a gate lodge dated 1867. It features a picturesque T-plan design and is a single-storey structure with a projecting wing at the center of the south elevation. The south face has a gabled entrance, while the east face includes a window in the re-entrant angle. The gables are adorned with 16-pane sash windows that have crests above them. The lodge has a central ridge flue battery, decorative barge-boards, and apex finials, all under steeply pitched slate roofs. Ornate cast-iron ridge cresting adds to its decorative appeal.
The entrance is marked by gate piers, gates, and railings. The gate piers are square, chamfered, and made of rusticated ashlar, featuring moulded copes and shallow pyramidal caps, with similar end piers. There are secondary carriage entrances flanked by decorative cast-iron piers, with double gates leading to the central entrance and single gates for the secondary entrances. These are linked by matching spearhead railings on a low coped wall.
