Description
The Old Mill, dating to circa 1830, is a former mill that has been converted into a dwelling house. It is a two-storey, L-shaped building with a rear wing. The exterior is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings. The east-facing approach elevation features two bays and a wheel gable, with a large, eight-spoke overshot water wheel to the right (north) of the entrance. Two forestairs lead to the rear of the building. The windows have multi-pane glazing, and the roof is slate. A raised lade, which previously supplied the mill, has now been removed. The building is referenced in John Hume’s The Industrial Archaeology of Scotland (1977), page 287.
