Description
St Stephen's Church, built between 1895 and 1897 by W L Carruthers, is designed in the Free Gothic style and constructed from snecked rubble. The church features a three-bay layout with a lower demi-octagonal chancel and a transept. At the re-entrant angle of the transept and nave, there is a square plan tower topped with a small needle spire. The chancel has a crenellated parapet, and there is a gabled porch at the base of the tower. The windows are designed with cusped pointed lights set in round-headed arches, showcasing angular detailing. Inside, there is a stained glass memorial window dedicated to Dr Ogilvie Grant, created by A Ballantine & Son in 1906.
