Description
The Town Hall on Bridge Street in Wick was built in 1828 and features an arcaded design with a central tower. The building is constructed from coursed rubble with broached dressings, which are painted within the arcade. It has two storeys and a projecting three-bay arcade that supports a three-stage tower. The arcade includes a vaulted ceiling and a band course at the impost level that continues on the inner faces. Above the inner door is a fanlight, and there is a War Memorial from 1914-18 located over the outer central entrance arch.
The square tower has a corniced window above the arcade, a panelled stage above that, and an octagonal upper stage featuring alternate blind panels and clock faces, along with anthemion ornamentation. The cupola above is arcaded and domed. All first-floor windows are designed with console-bracketed cornices and feature 12-pane sash windows. There is a cornice and blocking course above the first-floor balustrade over the outer arcade bays. The side elevations are simple with two bays and have a piended slate roof. There are also two-storey later additions to the south, made from coursed rubble and topped with piended slate roofs.
