Skeabost House Hotel, Skye

Skeabost House Hotel, dated 1871, likely has an earlier core and features various additions and alterations. Designed by Alexander Ross in 1870/71, this large and sprawling mansion is finished in white painted render with tooled long and short dressings. It is laid out in an L-plan, with asymmetrical principal elevations facing south and west. A central square tower rises above the main roof, featuring a corbelled, crenellated first stage topped with a large glazed roofed cupola and a smaller cupola cap. The south elevation has hoodmoulded bipartite windows on the first floor, while the south range is topped with a crenellated wallhead parapet and gabled dormers. The west range includes gabletted dormers, and the building has end and ridge stacks along with a slate roof.

In the southwest re-entrant angle, there is a cast-iron sun room. A later single-storey addition has been made to the east.

Inside, the hotel features panelling, doorpieces, and an imposing staircase, all dating from the 1870s.
