Description
The granary at Staxigoe is an 18th-century, large, simple, two-storey and attic, rectangular-plan grain store built from coursed Caithness stone. It has a modern corrugated asbestos roof.
The building features an off-centre pair of doors on the southeast and northwest elevations, with windows and loft openings positioned above on the first floor and attic, some of which are blocked. The northeast elevation has an enlarged cart opening with a centrally placed attic window above it. There is also a cart loading door on the first floor, which indicates the presence of a loading platform below, and a centrally located attic window set close above on the southwest elevation.
Inside, the majority of the interior was gutted in 2003. There is a platform on the southwest side at the first floor, with timber stairs leading to the second floor, where some remaining floor rafters can be seen.
