Description

Kindeace House is a two-story and attic house with a raised basement, built around the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and significantly altered in 1869 and again in 1931. The house has five bays and is harled, with tooled ashlar margins and dressings. The central bay is slightly advanced and contains a front door set within a moulded architrave, approached by a wide flight of steps that overhang the raised basement, which features a wrought-iron balustrade. A stepped and moulded string course sits above the door. The first floor has paired windows, and above, in the gable, is a pointed-headed attic window. Flanking the gable are dummy bartizans, with gabletted crowsteps and a finial. There are two dormers with ball finials, dating to 1869. Single windows are located in the east and west ground floor gables, with a coat of arms within a recessed panel and a blind cruciform vent above. The windows contain two-pane glazing, and the roof has gabletted gables and crowsteps. A later, shallow projecting wing extends to the rear.

The stables, also designed by Alexander Ross and dated 1869, are a single-story and attic, U-plan block connected to the rear of the main house by harled and coped retaining walls that form a rectangular court. The courtyard is roofed by a canopy. The left section houses a carriage house, featuring a pointed-headed window above, while the right section contains a cottage with a similar first-floor window. A bellcote with a weather vane sits in the centre ridge, and there are end stacks; the roof is slate.

Gable coats of arms display the initials GR HE.
