Description
Letterewe House is a rambling, two-storey house constructed between the late 18th and late 19th centuries. The exterior is predominantly harled, with margins of tooled ashlar. The building follows a roughly L-shaped plan, with re-entrant walls forming a small, enclosed court and topped with crenellations. The main entrance is now located on the north side, at the base of a projecting, two-storey and attic drum tower. The tower features three small, decorative, piended dormers, a conical fishscale slate roof, a bellcote, and a weathervane. Some windows extend through the wallhead into gabled dormers, and the windows have varied glazing patterns. Other details include crowsteps, angle bartizans, margined ridge and end stacks, and slate roofs. The house was described as "a good seat" as early as 1813. References to the property are found in Nicholas Carlisle’s Topographical Dictionary of Scotland.
