Description
This is a house, built in 1828 by Thomas Telford. It was originally a single-story building, but the central three bays were raised in the mid to later 19th century to create a two-story section, with single-story bays on either side. The house has a shallow H-shaped plan. The exterior is harled and has painted margins. A modern, flat-roofed porch obscures the main entrance, and a projecting stairwell with a piended roof is located at the rear. The windows have 12 panes of glass, and there are corniced end stacks. The roofs are slate, with piended roofs on the single-story bays. A drystone garden wall is also present. The rear stairwell appears on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1875, suggesting the heightening occurred before this date. The house is referenced in the Telford Atlas of 1838, plates 58 and 59.
