Description

Midtown House in Inverasdale is an early to mid-19th century, two-storey building that is thought to have originally been built as a school, possibly by the Highland Educational Society, with the master's house located on the upper floor. It later served as a free church meeting hall, and the ground floor may have been used for domestic purposes briefly, though there is no evidence of any conversion. As of 1991, the building is derelict and is constructed of rubble that was formerly harled. It features mostly four-pane sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, and slate-corniced stacks.

On the front (south) elevation, the central door has been blocked to form a window. There is a gabled, slated porch addition of early date on the left, with a window to the right. The first floor has three windows, and there are skylights in the attic.

The rear (north) elevation has a central forestair with a first-floor doorway in a lean-to porch. There are windows flanking the ground floor only, and a skylight in the attic. Each gable retains a window on the first floor with a 12-pane glazing pattern.

Inside, the ground floor features a boarded timber v-lined schoolroom, along with some loose furnishings from its later use as a church.
