Description
The house at Inverewe, near Poolewe, dates from around 1730 to 1740. It is a two-storey, five-bay building, originally harled. A wide, later projecting porch dominates the west front, obscuring the original central entrance, and is flanked by larger single windows that were added later. Smaller windows on the first floor are paired in the outer bays. The windows have 12-pane glazing. The rear elevation has irregular and altered window placement. A buttress is located at the northeast corner. The end stacks have been renewed, and the roof is covered in West Highland slate. A dry stone garden wall encloses the property.
A low, single-storey harled steading, now converted into dwellings and occupied by National Trust for Scotland personnel, stands nearby. It has irregular window placement and a slate roof. The ground floor house windows may be later alterations, originally narrower paired windows like those on the first floor, and the house is named Inverewe on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1874. The property is owned by the National Trust for Scotland.
