Description
This is a house dating from around 1730 to 1740, located in Poolewe and owned by the National Trust for Scotland. It is a two-storey, five-bay building with harled exterior walls. The central doorway is concealed behind a wide, later projecting porch on the west front, which is flanked by larger, single windows added later. The outer bays have smaller windows on the first floor, which are paired. The ground floor windows may be later alterations, having evolved from paired, narrow windows similar to those on the first floor to the current larger, single windows. All windows have 12-pane glazing. The rear fenestration is irregular and altered. A buttress is located on the northeast side of the house, and the end stacks have been renewed. The roof is covered in West Highland slate. A dry stone garden wall surrounds the property.
A low, single-storey harled steading, originally part of the estate, has been converted into dwellings and is now used by National Trust personnel. This steading also has irregular fenestration and a slate roof. The estate was known as Inverewe on the first edition Ordnance Survey map from 1874.
