Description
Ford Park is a two-storey, three-bay house dating from 1824 to 1827, facing south. The exterior walls are harled, with tooled ashlar margins. An entrance, originally central, is now masked by a later projecting gabled porch, which has a front window and a side door. The west gable has two ground floor and one first floor window; the ground floor windows are taller than those on the first floor, and all have 12-pane glazing. The building features an eaves band, angle margins, corniced end stacks, and a piended slate roof to the front. There are two valleys to the rear. A later single-storey and attic wing, matching the detailing of the main house, was added to the rear.
A high, coped garden wall borders the property. Ford Park was rebuilt on or close to the site of a former manse.
The house’s construction was documented in a letter from James Loch to Lady Stafford in 1824, which indicated that economies were being practiced during the building process due to the need for repairs to several manses. Dornoch Manse was repaired at this time. Early 19th-century plans of the site are held at the Scottish Record Office, reference RHP11682. The New Statistical Account of 1834 provides further details.
