Description
Macleod House is a large, asymmetrical High Victorian villa dated 1877. It is two storeys and has an attic. The exterior is of coursed grey rubble with tooled dressings. A projecting, round-arched gabled porch, originally the entrance, now serves as a window, supported by squat columns, is located near the centre. A canted bay window rises the full height of the building to the left, and is finished with a piended roof. A side-gabled porch is present on the south elevation. The north gable features a single-storey and attic wing with a three-bay design, and has mullioned and transomed windows of two, three, and four lights. The roof is slate, with deep eaves, corniced ridge and end stacks, and three gabled dormers and one small box dormer. A coped front retaining wall stands before the property, along with a pair of square ashlar gate piers with square caps and a simple pair of cast-iron carriage gates. The statutory address is Golspie Old Bank Street, and the building is currently used as an education hostel.
