Description
Dated 1896, 2 Drill Hall Cottages are a picturesque, asymmetrical pair of estate cottages, reflecting the influence of the Sutherland and Stafford Estates. They are constructed of red rubble with contrasting, tooled grey ashlar dressings. The first floor features decorative, timber-framed gables.
The west elevation has four bays. The entrance to No. 1 is located in a shallow re-entrant angle formed by the northwest gabled bay. The entrance to No. 2 is situated in the southwest angle, with a deep gabled bay projecting south. Windows are arranged as tripartite windows on the ground floor and within the south first-floor gable, with bipartite windows elsewhere. A barge-boarded, gabletted dormer is present on the west face. Decorative, wooden finials adorn the barge-boards on all gables. The windows are 8-pane sashes. There are corniced stacks at the lateral ends and ridge, and the roof is covered in red tiles. The statutory address is GOLSPIE OLD BANK STREET 1 AND 2, DRILL HALL COTTAGES.
