Description
This is an early to mid-18th century granary, with later additions to the centre, including an external forestair. It has a five-bay frontage facing the shore. The building is constructed of harl-pointed rubble with ashlar dressings. The ground floor has doors in the outer bay of the front and near the NE gable. A window has been inserted into the gabletted second floor centre bay, likely where a hoist loft was formerly located. A further door has been inserted into a window on the first floor, which is also accessed by the forestair that continues upwards to a door on the third floor. The original symmetrical arrangement of windows at the rear has been altered, with one window on the second floor enlarged, and a later ground floor door added. There is a single window in each of the SW and NE gables, with a modelled corniced stack above the NE gable and a ball finial at the apex. The roof is covered in slate. Formerly known as “The Old Rent House,” the building is referenced in several historical records relating to Scottish architecture and industrial archaeology.
