Description
Probably designed by Alexander and William Reid around 1875, Coire Mor is a single-story building combining a dairy and a dwelling. It is constructed of grey rubble stone with contrasting tooled ashlar dressings. The front, facing southeast, has three bays, with a central door under a small, swept canopy providing access to the dwelling on the right and internal access to the dairy on the left. A central entrance to the dairy is located in the southwest gable, concealed behind a veranda extending across the full width of the gable, supported by four rustic timber columns. Above the slated veranda canopy are three small, round-headed windows. The dairy is lit on the northwest by three round-headed windows. The dwelling windows have four panes of glass, while the dairy windows have two panes, featuring decorative coloured geometric leaded glazing. A square ridge vent sits above the dairy, featuring paired round-headed louvred openings on each face, topped by a pyramidal slated roof with a cast-iron finial. A coped ridge stack rises from a small wing at the northwest; the roofs are jerkin-headed slate. The interior of the dairy retains its original fittings, including a two-tier centre fountain. The lower half of the walls and cills are covered in coloured ceramic tiles, with shelving also present. A decorative mosaic tiled floor is also original. Various fittings, such as shallow-lipped basins and churns, remain in the dairy. The building is associated with Guisachan Farmhouse.
