Description

Alex D Hislop (Campbell and Hislop), 1912-13. Modern

classical, American influenced. 8-storey, 3 x 5 bay

commercial building. Ashlar with granite columns.

GROUND AND 1ST FLOOR: giant order of semi-engaged fluted

Doric columns in antis; metal infill panels. Entry to St

Vincent Street architraved, panelled above, stylised

corniced with sculpted wreath above. Frieze with

sculpted crests at angles; angle Phoenix sculpted

ornaments. Architraved windows with geometric glazing

bars. 2nd floor alternating segmental and triangular

pedimented windows. 3rd floor cill band with rosettes;

4th floor windows lugged architraves. 6th floor windows

set in frieze with continuous panels and guttae. Mutule

cornice. Parapet with attic windows breaking through.
