Description

J J Stevenson (London), circa 1875-8. Renaissance detailed commercial building. 3 storeys with modern shops at ground floor. 6 bays to St Vincent Street, windows arranged 3-2-3-2-3-3; 3 bays to West Nile Street, windows 2-3-2; bays divided by panelled pilasters decorated with festoons at 2nd floor. Ashlar.

Entry to No 77 St Vincent Street polished granite Ionic columns with swag volutes and wrought-iron grille to fanlight.

3-window bays: each with shallow 1st floor canted window and sculpture over centre light; 2nd floor windows with decorative architraves, central window to each bay flanked by Ionic columns; (except western bay); overall segmental pediment with roundel (1 altered), no pediment

to W bay. 2-window bays: corniced and pedimented 1st floor windows; 2nd floor as in wider bays.

WEST NILE STREET: similarly detailed except 2nd bay from N blind.

DRURY STREET: rear elevation, simple treatment with mullioned and transomed pedimented windows, large segmental pediment above cornice.
