Description

67, 69, and 71 St Vincent Street in Glasgow is a Renaissance detailed commercial building designed by J J Stevenson, built around 1875 to 1878. The structure has three storeys and features modern shops on the ground floor. The facade facing St Vincent Street consists of six bays, with windows arranged in a pattern of three, two, three, two, three, and three. The three bays on West Nile Street have windows arranged in two, three, and two. The bays are separated by panelled pilasters adorned with festoons at the second floor, and the building is constructed of ashlar.

The entrance to No 77 St Vincent Street is marked by polished granite Ionic columns that feature swag volutes and a wrought-iron grille above the fanlight. Each of the three-window bays includes a shallow canted window on the first floor with sculpture above the center light. The second-floor windows are framed by decorative architraves, with the central window in each bay flanked by Ionic columns, except for the western bay, which lacks a pediment. The overall design includes a segmental pediment with a roundel, although one has been altered, and the western bay does not have a pediment. The two-window bays have corniced and pedimented windows on the first floor, while the second-floor windows mirror those in the wider bays.

On West Nile Street, the detailing is similar, but the second bay from the north is blind. The rear elevation on Drury Street has a simpler design, featuring mullioned and transomed windows with pediments, and a large segmental pediment above the cornice.
