Glasgow Academy War Memorial, Colebrooke Street, Glasgow

The Glasgow Academy War Memorial, designed by architect A N Paterson in 1924, is a polished ashlar structure set into the school wall at the junction of Colebrooke Street and Great Western Road. The memorial is adjacent to a stugged ashlar school wall, which connects to the school railings to the northeast and the approach wall to the Great Western Bridge to the southeast.

The memorial features a plaque that is flanked by ashlar piers, which display wreathed dates commemorating the school's foundation in 1845 and its reconstitution in 1923. At the center, there is an inscribed dedication panel, flanked by sculpted palm branches that rest on fluted pilasters. These support an incised frieze, a mutule cornice, and a blocking course. Access to the memorial is via two shallow steps, leading up to the high school wall, which includes intermediate ashlar piers adorned with an incised band featuring a Greek key detail.
