Description

1841-2. Classical tenement. 4 storeys. 18-bay terrace

with 4 return bays to Garnethill Street with further 7

bays set down the slope of the hill. Ashlar channelled at

ground with squared rubble W and rear elevations.

HILL STREET ELEVATION: 6 console bracketted, pedimented

doorpieces arranged in groups of 3 in 3rd, 5th, 7th,

12th, 14th, 16th bays; round-arched windows to ground

floor with apron panels; ground floor cornice. Cill

course to 1st and 2nd floors, architraves only to 3rd

eaves band and cornice with 4 wallhead stacks. Similar

details in 4 return bays.

ELEVATION TO 37, 39 GARNETHILL STREET: symmetrical 7 bays

with advanced central bay with pedimented door. 4 storeys

and basement. All windows architraved. 1st floor with

2nd, 4th 6th windows pedimented. Cornices to 2nd floor.

Cill bands to windows in outer bays; eaves course,

cornice blocking course to centre bay only.
