Description
Peel Terrace, located at 108-112 Hill Street in Glasgow, is a classical tenement built between 1841 and 1842. This impressive structure consists of four storeys and features an 18-bay terrace, with four return bays facing Garnethill Street and an additional seven bays that descend the slope of the hill. The ground floor is finished in ashlar with channelled detailing, while the west and rear elevations are constructed from squared rubble.
The elevation facing Hill Street showcases six console-bracketed, pedimented doorpieces arranged in groups of three at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 12th, 14th, and 16th bays. The ground floor includes round-arched windows with apron panels and a cornice. There is a cill course on the 1st and 2nd floors, with architraves only on the 3rd floor, which features an eaves band and a cornice, topped with four wallhead stacks. The return bays display similar architectural details.
The elevation towards 37 and 39 Garnethill Street is symmetrical with seven bays, highlighted by an advanced central bay that contains a pedimented door. This side also has four storeys and a basement, with all windows framed by architraves. The 1st floor features pedimented windows at the 2nd, 4th, and 6th positions, along with cornices on the 2nd floor. Cill bands are present on the windows in the outer bays, and there is an eaves course and a cornice blocking course only on the central bay.
