Description
12-20 (Even Nos) Coburg Street is a four-storey, nine-bay former Co-Operative drapery warehouse built in 1910 by Bruce & Hay. The building features a simple classical design, with a granite ground floor and red sandstone ashlar on the upper floors of the main elevation, while the other sides are finished in red brick. It has a base course, cill courses, an eaves cornice, and a stepped stylised parapet. The outer bays have canted oriels.
On the principal elevation, the ground floor retains mostly original openings, although the leftmost one is now obscured by later signage. The canted oriels on the outer bays extend from the first to the third floors. The inner seven bays feature lettering that separates the first and second floors, stating 'KINNING PARK CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD', and the second and third floors display '1910'.
The interior of the ground floor includes large cast-iron columns with composite-inspired capitals that have floral motifs.
