Description

The Procurator Fiscal's Office, located in the Custom House at 298-306 Clyde Street in Glasgow, is a Grade A listed building designed by John Taylor in 1840. This former customs office is two stories tall and features a Greek Revival architectural style. The façade consists of nine bays, with a five-bay central section that projects forward.

The building is constructed from polished ashlar stone, with the ground floor channelled to serve as a plinth. The central entrance is highlighted by a pediment and pilasters. All windows are sash and case, arranged symmetrically with six or nine panes of glazing per sash, and feature cills on the ground floor and both floors in the outer bays.

On the first floor, there are Greek Doric semi-engaged columns arranged tetrastyle in antis. The building has a continuous eaves entablature adorned with a triglyph frieze and a plain cornice. A blocking course rises to form a corniced parapet in the outer bays of the central section, with the centre elevated to create a podium for a sculpted coat of arms. There are single bay later additions to the east and west, which include elliptically headed pends with Venetian windows above.
