Description

14 Garth Street in Glasgow is a five-storey and attic warehouse built between 1928 and 1933 by Thomson, Sandilands and MacLeod. The building features ashlar sandstone with a granite base course along Hutcheson Street. It has a cill course at the first floor, a frieze, and a main cornice above the fourth floor, topped with a flat-roofed attic. The ground floor openings have simple architraves, with apron panels below the windows.

On the Hutcheson Street elevation, the building has an asymmetrical three-bay design. There is a doorway on the left and paired large, square windows on the right. Above ground, the left bay has narrow windows set in a panel, while the centre and right bays are divided by Giant order pilasters that are fluted at the neck and feature cast-iron moulded apron panels. Above the left bay, there is a single attic window, and bipartite windows are located above the centre and right bays.

The Wilson Street elevation consists of eight bays, mirroring the ground floor design of Hutcheson Street but in a symmetrical arrangement. The doorways in the two outer bays have been blocked and converted into windows, while three large windows are grouped at the centre. The windows are metal-framed with plate glass casements.
