Description
9 Garth Street is a building dating from around 1800, featuring four storeys and a swept-dormer attic. It has five bays facing Garth Street and four bays facing Glassford Street, and was originally used for both domestic and commercial purposes. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar.
The building has a late 19th century pub front that includes pilasters and an arcade, with a cornice that serves as a cill course for the first floor. Above the second floor, there is a simple frieze and cornice, and the eaves cornice is cut down to accommodate a wallhead stack on Garth Street. The gable end facing Glassford Street has four bays, with four windows on each upper floor; the third floor has a blind window. The sash and case windows feature plate-glass glazing, and the gable end is topped with a pediment and an apex stack. The roof is covered with slate.
