Stables, Pollok House, Pollok Park, Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow

The stables at Pollok House in Pollok Park, Glasgow, date from the 17th to the 19th century and were formerly used as stables for Pollok House, built on the site of an earlier house known as Laighe Castle. The building features much re-used 17th century work, with fragments at the eastern corner believed to be from a tower dating around 1536. The structure is primarily constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring two-storey elevations, small-paned sash windows, tall chimney stacks, and slate roofs. The range to the northwest includes an impressive 17th century Renaissance gateway, a pend, margined openings, and a large roof ventilator. The range to the northeast was built in three stages, with the central section likely being a later 19th century rebuild that incorporates carved fragments, now having a uniform eaves level and roof, along with a further range to the east. The southwest range was also constructed in stages.
