Description
The Glasgow Saw and File Works is an industrial building dating from around 1870, located at 24 Elliot Street, Glasgow. This two-storey structure with an attic is situated on a corner site and features a layout of seven by twelve bays, including a recessed, bowed corner bay. The building is constructed from polychromatic brick with a rusticated ashlar plinth and cill bands, as well as a coping detail.
It has casement windows that are adorned with geometric glazing bars. The goods entrance is located in the southern bay on Elliot Street, with arched ground and first-floor windows that sit on a cill band and are topped with header brick arches. The canted corner bay includes a ground floor entrance with a double-leaf panelled door and a fanlight above. The second floor features a dentil cornice, while the gable is corniced and includes two arched windows in the northern bays facing Elliot Street. The building also has an axial stack.
