Description
Cemetery laid out 1847 in grounds of Janefield house and enclosed by stone-built walls (in part, of original policies), circa 1860 lodge, and gateway. Extensive series of 19th/20th century monuments; pedestal survives of monument (erected 1882) to Duncan Livingstone 1808-70) ("Am Bard Ileach") a major Gaelic poet who campaigned against the clearances and destruction of Gaelic culture. Also monument to Alexander Cruikshanks "accidentally killed while keeping goal for Strathclyde FC versus Rutherglen Glencairn FC, 12 June 1932, aged 24".
LODGE is single storey, painted ashlar, mixed classical details, L-plan front to driveway, pedimented gable with round-arched italianate 3-light window and anthemion finial; continuous string course at impost level; slate roof.
GATEWAY curves inwards on plan, 6 square paitned ashlar piers with shaped caps, decorative cast-iron gates and railings.
