Description
New Cathcart Church, located at 210-218 Newlands Road in Glasgow, was designed by John Bennie Wilson in 1907 as Cathcart United Free Church. The church features a hall to the left, designed by John Hamilton in 1899, with both buildings having buttressed flanks facing the street. They are constructed of red snecked bull-faced ashlar with polished dressings and traceried windows, topped with slate roofs in a Perpendicular Gothic style.
The church has two-storey flank elevations with outer gables and a street elevation that includes a two-storey porch on the right. A side aisle connects to a flush transept on the left, and there is a pencil tower situated in the re-entrant angle.
The hall has a narrow link to the church on the right and features a square porch on the left with a pyramidal roof enclosed by a parapet. The property is further enhanced by gabletted gatepiers leading to the street and decorative wrought-iron railings on low walls.
