Description
90 Maxwell Street is a commercial building dating from around 1868, consisting of two phases. The Maxwell Street elevation features a four-storey structure with a basement and has 11 bays. The building is constructed of ashlar, which is painted at the ground level. At the center, there is a pilastered doorpiece with a fanlight, flanked by altered windows. Additional simple doorways are located in the outer right bay and the third bay from the left.
Above the ground floor, there is a frieze and a moulded cornice. The upper floors are arranged in a 3-5-3 grouping and are divided by giant pilaster strips with cill or string courses. The windows on the first and second floors have broad pilaster divides, while the third floor features flanking architraved, round-arched bipartite windows. The building has a deep moulded eaves cornice and end stacks, topped with a slate roof.
The windows are sash and case, with plate-glass glazing on the lower sashes and two-light configurations on the upper windows of the first and second floors. Decorative iron railings adorn the aprons of the ground floor windows and the basement openings.
