Loughborough Road Sinclairtown Library And Clinic, Kirkcaldy

The Loughborough Road Sinclairtown Library and Clinic in Kirkcaldy was designed by William Williamson & Hubbard and built between 1933 and 1935. This two-storey, seven-bay building features a rectangular plan and is designed in the Wrenaissance style. The exterior is made of polished ashlar with broad channelled quoins and doorcases, while the sides are harled with cement margins. It has a deep moulded base, band courses, and an eaves cornice with a lead blocking course, topped by a piend and platform roof. The northern elevation is symmetrical, with flanking screen walls.

In bays two and six, there are round-headed, keystoned doorcases with concave flanks and a blocking course, leading to a two-leaf panelled timber door and a decorative astragalled fanlight. The other bays feature windows, and the first floor has regular fenestration, with the central bay above a moulded panel displaying the Kirkcaldy coat-of-arms.

The eastern and western elevations also have five-bay regular fenestration on the first floor. The windows are timber with small-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers. Inside, the library and clinic have a simple decorative scheme.
