Description

151-153 High Street in Kirkcaldy is a former bank building designed by William Williamson in 1905, which underwent alterations around 1985. This three-storey, three-bay classical structure is now home to a shop on the ground floor. It features polished sandstone ashlar with channelled pilastered quoin strips, as well as mutuled cornices at both the ground floor and eaves. The windows are architraved and corniced.

The south elevation facing High Street is asymmetrical at the ground level. It includes a pedimented and keystoned doorcase with flanking pilasters and volute capitals, leading to a two-leaf glazed door with a deep, blocked fanlight located to the left of centre. To the right, there are two tall arcaded windows. The ground floor cornice serves as a plinth for giant channelled pilasters that flank each upper storey bay, supporting an entablature and an open pediment at the centre above a recessed bay. The first floor features a pedimented window in the centre with corniced windows in the flanking bays, all adorned with keystones. The second floor has three smaller windows, with the centre window displaying a consoled cornice beneath a keystoned segmental moulding within a broken pediment.

The east elevation includes a two-storey modern building that adjoins the slightly projecting central bay, which has narrow lights on the return to the left at both the first and second floors. The building has plate glass glazing in top-opening windows and fixed display windows on the ground floor. The roof is covered with grey slates and features a piend and platform design, along with coped ashlar stacks.
