Description

This building, located at 41 Church Street in Kirkcaldy, dates back to 1866 and was originally a linen factory. It is a two-storey structure with a part-basement and features 11 bays. The building is constructed from coursed and snecked rubble with dressed margins and includes a single-storey pantiled outbuilding, which may have served as a byre, situated on ground that slopes to the west.

On the south elevation, there is a wide segmental-headed opening to the right of the center, with three windows to the right and a door to the outer right. To the left, there are six windows, with the outer left window positioned above a door in the raised basement. Decorative cast-iron tie-rod ends are regularly spaced between the floors, and there is a datestone located between bays five and six at cill height. The single-storey building to the left has a two-leaf boarded timber door with a timber lintel in a wide opening to the right of center, along with a window to the outer right and two small windows to the left.

The west elevation features a gable topped with a ball finial, adjoining a pantiled building at ground level and includes a window in the gablehead. The east elevation also has a ball-finialled gable with doors to the outer right and left, as well as a blocked window in the gablehead.

The first-floor bay three has a timber sash and case window with a four-pane glazing pattern, while all other openings are blocked. The roof is covered with grey slates and traditional clay pantiles, and there are coped ashlar stacks, with those on the single-storey building featuring thackstanes, along with ashlar-coped skews.
