Description

Viewforth Day Centre is a 19th-century, single-storey, three-bay building that was formerly a school. It is constructed from bull-faced squared and snecked rubble, featuring dressed ashlar quoins, base and eaves courses. The building has a segmental-headed doorway with a relieving arch, crowstepped gables that include louvered oculi, stop-chamfered arrises, and stone mullions.

On the northeast elevation, there is a deeply moulded doorway to the right of centre, which has a two-leaf panelled timber door and a multi-pane fanlight above. Above the doorway, there is a small moulded panel in a gablet. To the left is a broad gabled bay with a tripartite window and a relieving arch, while a small recessed gabled bay on the outer right features a bipartite window.

The northwest elevation has a gabled bay to the right with a tripartite window, and a slightly recessed lower bay to the left that includes a bipartite window to the right and another window to the left.

On the southwest elevation, there is a tripartite window in the gabled bay to the right and a bipartite window to the left. A door on the return to the outer right is accessed via a link to a modern building to the southwest.

The southeast elevation features three bipartite windows. The windows are timber sash and case with a multi-pane glazing pattern over two-pane lower sashes. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks and ashlar-coped skews with beak skewputts.

Inside, the building has plain cornices and boarded timber dadoes throughout.

The boundary walls are made of coped rubble, and there are square-section ashlar gatepiers with pyramidal copes and stop-chamfered angles.
