Description

The building is a late 19th-century single-storey, four-bay former school located on Strathore Road in Thornton. It features squared and snecked dressed rubble with roughly coursed rubble at the rear and ashlar dressings. The windows are designed with segmental and basket arches, stone transoms, and mullions, along with chamfered lintels.

The northern elevation is symmetrical, showcasing an advanced M-gable at the center. Each bay contains a small segmental-arched window, with two small windows and a moulded doorway featuring a panelled timber door and a plate glass fanlight on each return. The recessed outer bays have further windows.

On the southern elevation, there is a transomed bipartite window that breaks the eaves into a catslide roof at the center. The eastern and western elevations both have gabled designs, with the eastern elevation featuring a raised center transomed tripartite window.

The building has multi-pane upper sashes over two- and four-pane lower sections in timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and it has cavetto-coped and shouldered gablehead stacks, as well as a tall coped ashlar stack with polygonal cans. The eaves are overhanging, and there are cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

The boundary walls are made of coped rubble.
