Description

The Terraced Garden at Balcaskie House is a late 17th century Italian garden attributed to Sir William Bruce. The garden features terraces that are divided by balustraded walls, which support urns. There are balustraded steps connecting the different levels, and bold buttresses that hold classical busts. A pilastered keyblocked arch with ball finials is located above the cornice and blocking course, and a cast-iron gate provides access from the upper terrace to the park. A sundial is present in the garden, and two lead statues frame the long vista on the upper terrace. The stairs, designed by W A Nesfield around 1895, include channelled and keyblocked arched gateways along with rococo cast-iron gates.
