Description
Balcaskie Cottages, associated with Balcaskie House, were likely designed by William Lees, based on a sketch by Burn from 1834-35, with the west wing added in 1843. The building is quadrangular and open to the south, constructed from rubble with tooled dressings and slate roofs. The symmetrical north elevation features a central basket-arched pend beneath a crow-stepped gable, with the outer bays being wider and gabled. Various alterations have been made to the openings since the building was converted for residential use, including the addition of flat-roofed dormers. The courtyard includes twin open enclosures, and there is a circular horsemill without machinery located at the northeast.
